Trax Transformations
I have been a member of Healthtrax in Glastonbury for many years, so many I do not remember but at least 10 years. My engagement at the gym has made all the difference in my quality of life.
I came from a family that did no sport activity and essentially did not move. I started walking every morning when I quit smoking at age 47. That turned to a running habit. I ran every day for 2 miles, 5 miles on weekends, the same route in the same direction. That ended when I needed a hip replacement. After working out at Curves for a few years, I moved to Glastonbury and, with much trepidation about how a non-athletic person like me could even think of going to a real gym, I joined Healthtrax.
My first few years at Healthtrax I developed a routine that I did 4 times a week, the same movements in the same order. While I later learned that doing the same thing every day was not particularly helpful, I would say that it got me started. I decided to work with a trainer to see if I could learn new skills. I met with a few trainers that taught me some things about working out. Deciding to work with a trainer was the second best decision I ever made, the first being joining Healthtrax in the first place!
My trainer now is Marcy Williams and she has changed my life in many positive ways. First she gave me the courage to stretch myself and try new things that I never imagined I could do. I was inspired to try classes. With her I actually developed muscles and began to enjoy my body. This inspired me to lose 30 pounds and at 70 to be in the best shape of my life. I now go to the gym 4 days a week. People always say to me “you are so good” in reference to my exercise routines and the gym. I am not being good; I love going to the gym, feeling my body work, doing things that continue to amaze me. Marcy is my inspiration, my coach, my strongest supporter and my friend. Healthtrax is a refuge for me, always welcoming, always friendly, and provides a full range of both classes and training that have added so much quality to my life.
I have had back issues and recently had rotator cuff surgery, both of which needed physical therapy to get me back on track. Healthtrax now offers on site physical therapy. I meet twice a week with April Garner and have learned so many ways to improve movement, relieve pain and gain my strength back. Marcy and April work together to provide me with the knowledge and movements needed to enhance and speed my recovery. When I have had an injury or surgery, Marcy has never stopped my training, she just makes the modifications needed to accommodate any injury I have sustained or any surgery that needs rehabilitation. April and Marcy working together, consulting one another, making the needed adjustments to whatever is happening in my body has been the best partnership ever for my ongoing health and restoration of strength and functioning.
